Initial Tutoring Session

Before students begin to work with their one-on-one tutor, they will complete a thorough standards-based assessment in reading and math with a licensed teacher during the initial tutoring session. This one-hour appointment will include reviewing the assessment, receiving professional feedback on the areas of academic strengths and weaknesses to be addressed during tutoring, and scheduling the duration and frequency of a child’s tutoring sessions. After the initial tutoring session, students will be matched with a tutor that is certified to teach the content areas to be addressed.
The Process
Schedule Initial Lesson
During this session, new students will meet one-on-one with a teacher to complete a standards-based assessment in reading and math. This assessment will indicate the instructional areas for the tutor to address during private tutoring sessions.

Next, the teacher will review the results with parents. This conversation includes scheduling preferences, recommended length and frequency of tutoring sessions, and academic areas to focus on to best meet the needs of the student.

After the initial session, our team will match the student with a licensed teacher that is certified to teach in the content areas needed. Once a student is placed with a teacher, tutoring sessions are scheduled and begin.

Find The Best Path
Our initial tutoring session is ideal for elementary and middle school students to identify areas of academic strengths and weaknesses to be addressed or extended during the student’s private tutoring session.
ELementary + middle school students
The purpose of the initial tutoring session is to identify gaps in foundational skills, which students need to be successful, through the standards-based assessment. Identifying skill gaps gives private tutoring sessions a focused direction that aligns with and meets the student’s academic needs.
High School + College students
Older students will not complete the initial session’s assessment because their sessions will be based on one or more subjects, such as Algebra or Chemistry, instead of focusing on foundational skills. These students will discuss the academic areas they need support with once they are matched with their private tutor.
